Our Mission
We preserve the memory of Omar Aziz and promote understanding of his contributions to horizontal organizing, collective autonomy, and revolutionary self-governance. Through educational resources, memorial events, and activist coordination, we ensure his ideas remain living tools for transformation rather than historical artifacts.
Omar Aziz's Story
Omar Aziz was born in Damascus in 1949 and spent decades abroad as an economist before returning to Syria in 2011 to participate in the uprising. He articulated the concept of Local Coordination Committees as autonomous, horizontally organized bodies that became the backbone of grassroots resistance. Arrested in November 2011, he died in regime custody in February 2013, but his organizational vision continues to inspire movements seeking to build power from below.
